A Q&A community from zero to 20K visits a month
Developers trust other developers more than they trust vendors. We built a question-and-answer community from an empty forum to 20,000 organic visits a month, and learned exactly where visits and customers part ways.
- Monthly organic visits to the community: 0 → 20K+ STATED — built from September 2020 (the forum's oldest threads are dated 14 Sep 2020) and past 20K+ by July 2025.
- The property lived at community.lambdatest.com and now redirects into testmuai.com PUBLIC.
How it grew
Grew on threads written for search. The growth came when we started writing threads around the questions developers actually type into a search box — tools, integrations, error messages, comparisons — each one built to answer a single query better than the results page above it.
Answered by the people who built the product. Engineers answered under their own names. The credibility of an answer written by the person who wrote the feature is the whole moat.
Structured for search. Question titles as developers phrase them, one accepted answer, canonical tags back to documentation where it existed.
What I'd do differently
Instrument it for activation from the start. We measured visits first and signups second; the order should have been reversed. A forum can grow visits far faster than it grows customers, and the only way to know which one you are building is to measure the second from day one.
Proof
- PUBLIC The community's current home on testmuai.com. STATED Visit series, internal analytics.
Every figure on this page carries a proof badge. PUBLIC links open for anyone; THIRD-PARTY corroborates direction from an independent source; STATED is internal analytics, quoted with its date, with a walkthrough available in conversation.
